Revival Recital 2013

Oh dear. Let me apologize. Call me a time traveler, but I am actually writing this post in 2015. I can't remember what I performed. I think I actually began this recital with a recorder number. You know, the ones you learn to play in 5th grade?

But I couldn't rest tonight if I didn't post a picture of this fantastic group of talented women.

Mission visit

Before school started, we visited Grandma and Grandpa at their mission.
Look at the beautiful redhead who greets missionaries when they walk into the Salt Lake Mission home.

We are so happy that Grandma and Grandpa are serving a mission. We know we are lucky that they are close and that we get to visit them every once in a while. They are great examples and we love them so much!!!

Piano recital

My name is Karin and I teach my own kids piano.
That's why they didn't have piano lessons during the summer. Which makes perfect sense for me to put them in a piano recital in August.

No. No it doesn't make sense at all.

Although they only had 2 lessons before the recital, they did a great job.

I took one picture and the kids took 2 videos with the ipod.

The video missed Camille playing "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" on her own, but catches our duet nicely. Especially the part where I mess up. And Sydney does a beautiful job on "Fur Elise." Especially her curtsy at the end.

First day of school

The first day of school arrived bright and early for several excited children at my house.
Look at the smiles...
And look at those new shoes!
5th grade for Parker.
3rd grade for Camille.
Boy are they growing up fast!

Park and Millie left together on their bikes.

First they took a few laps around the cul-de-sac...

Then they were outta here!

And Sydney is our big 7th grader now. Locker and all.
Funny story: A few days before school started, we went to 7th grade openhouse. We found her classrooms and met her teachers. Located bathrooms, locker rooms, cafeteria and the gym. And we found her locker. Sydney pulled out the combination, we both looked at the lock on the locker and then she looked at me. Expectantly. Confidently. Waiting. I looked back and my mind went blank. When was the last time I opened a locker, or a lock? Turn right or left first? One turn this way, two turns that way, don't forget to go back past the zero before going to the next number. I looked back and smiled and stepped to the locker. "OK Syd. I guess I ought to show you how to open your locker." I held my breath and started to turn the dial. Luckily old habits die hard and I opened it first try. Sydney wasn't so lucky. She thinks she averaged 1 out of every 5 tries. There are a lot of lockers in her future and it won't take long for it to be an old habit that doesn't die. She told me, "If I can open my locker at least once on the first day of school, it will be a good day!"

Sydney left on the bus before everyone else and boy was she excited!!!

With everyone off to school, that leaves these little hooligans at home to keep me company!
Rachel will start kindergarten next week. She did superbly on her kinder evaluation today and cannot wait until next Tuesday!

Yay for school!!!

Its weird to walk through the elementary school and not be able to stop by Sydney's classroom.
Its weird to walk to the school and not be pushing a stroller. I can just walk with my hands swinging free.
Its weird to think I have no napping babies to further complicate the drop-off/pick-up schedule of kindergarten.
Its weird to think how much may happen in Sydney's day, how many influences and interactions, I may never know about.
Its weird to think how much I miss my kids when they're gone.
