When I was living in China, I bought some traditional Chinese dishes. They aren't fancy. They are the regular dishes families use on a daily basis in their homes. They have been tucked away in a cupboard for about 15 years. I just didn't think they would be appreciated or safe around my own children. But this year, to celebrate Chinese New Year, I decided it was time to bring them out. And that is where the authenticity ends. The majority of the food was provided by the freezer section at Costco. (Just keeping it real!)
The girls and I had fun decorating. We made a dragon! And some lanterns.
All in all, it was a great dinner. It was fun for me to pull out the dishes and unpack all the memories that came with them. Those sure were unforgettable times, living in China, seeing parts of this beautiful world that I may never be able to return to, and all that I learned about life, relationships, working with people.
And only one plate got broken.
