Carter Creek - day 2

Hiking around Carter Creek.
To the Beaver Dam that isn't a dam anymore but still a destination for our family.

Look at the cute little beaver!

Stuck in the quick sand.

Rachel perfected Sterling's sitting stance.
She called it the Farmer Pose

Playing games in the camper.

We left a nice little zen garden.

On the way home, we stopped by Provo Falls for lunch, a family favorite.

Carter Creek - day 1

I'm not sure how many more years we will go to Carter Creek with my parents. So each year we go, we make the most of it. This trip had a really special feel because it really might be the last.

New to camp this year were man-made teepees.

Syd. Enough said.

Sitting around the campfire eating S'mores!

Packed into the camper.

LILY LAKE

Bryce enjoyed collecting fish carcasses. It was actually pretty gross and I'm glad it doesn't show up very well in this picture.

Hiking around the lake.

Relaxing at the lake

Playing Go Fish while fishing. hahaha

Fishing

Look at Parker helping Bryce learn how to fish.
So cute!

Nice hair!

Carter Creek 2015 day 3

I know the post title says Day 3, but I'm actually started here at the end of Day 2. My blog. My rules.

After fishing and lunch, Sarah and Cooper took Grandpa home so he could recover in the comforts of home. Then kids played in the creek. It wasn't very deep. Especially not deep enough surf, silly boy.

The kids worked pretty hard at trying to build a dam for a while. Then the cousins decided it was time for them to go home. We said a fond farewell and bid them adieu.

Then we returned to all our fun in the water!

They explore up and down both ends of the creek. They worked on the dam a little more. We had a rock throwing contest to see who could throw rocks into the same small area for the most times in a row. (Did that make sense?) And we made a sign out of rocks in the dirt.

Parker brought his baseball and mitt and stood on one side of the creek. Ster crossed the bridge to the other side of the creek and they played catch across the water. That was pretty entertaining.

Rachel spent a lot of time making things out of the sand and dirt. This was her culminating work of art.

For dinner, I only had to warm up half of what I brought and we had a delicious Build-Your-Own taco salad. As quickly as we could clean it up, we went to the community firepit and roasted marshmallows and s'mores with other folks staying at the camp. Great conversation and yummy, sticky snacks.

Don't they look like they're having so much fun? Don't let them fool you. We really did have a nice time watching the crackling flames, trying to stand or sit just close enough to be warmed but not roasted ourselves.
We ended the day with a few games of Spoons and then we all sleep peacefully and soundly until the sun woke us the next morning.

Day 3 morning we had cold cereal for breakfast. Let me tell you, you just don't know what COLD cereal is until you've poured mountain chilled milk on it. It's freezing!
We spent some of the morning finishing up some crafts and another short hike on the ATV trail.

We also made a "T" with twigs for the camp host, Terri.

After we cleaned the trailers and packed up, we were ready to go. Well, WE were ready to go but Grandma's car was not. She put the key in the ignition and nothing happened. And then she couldn't get it out. The whole car was deader than roadkill, including the fob. Ster fiddled with everything he could think of but because nothing was responding at all, even the fob, he thought it was an electrical problem. He asked around camp and no one knew what to do. (And no one came over to even take a look, which I thought was weird.)

I was sitting in the driver seat, fiddling with the key and that's when we decided to say a prayer. We prayed and asked for help. Then everyone looked at me. Ohhh, the pressure. I took a deep breath, turned the key and nothing happened. The key was still stuck and everything was dead. Mom suggested we try to jump the battery so Ster pulled our car up close and hooked her up and voila. POWER! That's all it was. A dead battery. We hadn't seen anything that would have alerted us that the battery was being drained. No lights on or anything. But we were all so relieved that the solution was that simple. And that prayers work!

That's all we needed and we were on our way. Mill and Rach drove with Grandma and followed each other to Provo River Falls for lunch. There was a bike race through the canyon on this particular day. I admire those people but I also think they are a little crazy. That's a lot of hard work, climbing a mountain on a bike! And it makes for nerve wracking driving as well.  Every time we thought we'd gotten ahead of everyone, we turned a corner to see this.

Provo River falls was GORGEOUS! I really love this place and if it weren't 1 1/2 hours away, I would come to it more often!

And that's a wrap. It had been two summers since we'd been to Carter Creek. We had to take a break during Grandma and Grandpa's mission. And it was sooo good to be back. It was fun to do it with cousins this time, but it was really sad to do it without Sydney and partly without Grandpa. Maybe next year we'll do it all again! It's just too much fun to miss!
(Thank you Grandpa!!!!)
