Rachel's eyes

Remember back in July 2011, when Rachel had surgery on her eyes? She was part of a study and is still having follow up appointments every 6 months. She is such a trooper. When we first started going to this doctor, Rachel couldn't even recognize letters in the alphabet. Now she can read chapters books. It's been a long time. She fits the chair a little better now and doesn't even need the booster seat like she used to.

Her vision is perfect. A funny story though....
Dr. Ryan has been the one to run the tests every time she comes in. When we started coming, I was pregnant with Hash. His wife was also pregnant, expecting around the same time I was. So we always talk about how our babies are doing when we come in for appointments. This time, we were talking about how similar our kids are in age. 5 kids ages 13-3. We laughed about how fun it is to have teenagers and how they forget to tell us things until last minute.
He brought up an example of New Beginnings on the same night he had appointments and had he known earlier he would have rescheduled.
"Are you a bishop?" I asked.
"I'm a Stake President now," he answered.
"So is my husband. How long have you been president?" I asked.
"Since June. What about your husband?"
"Since September," I laughed, realizing our lives were more similar than just having 5 kids each.
"Where do you serve?" I asked.
"[his city]."
"Oh, we're in [nearby city]."
He stopped and rested his hands on his lap. "Then I probably know your husband. What's his name?"
"Sterling Brown."
"I know President Brown. He still had that deer in the headlights look at our last coordinating meeting," Dr. Ryan said.
And the conversation went on from there. We talked for probably 20 minutes while Rachel sat patiently in the chair. Funny what a small world it is.

Rachel's eyes are perfect, but her teeth...
Well, she just lost two front teeth in two days. They were both loose. Then on the way to school, a neighbor's dog jumped up to greet her and knocked her tooth right out of her mouth. It was a little traumatic to go to school right after that but she did it. And the next day, Sterling, saying he just wanted a look, reached in and grabbed the second one and yanked it out. Poor girl. Another traumatic experience. Luckily the tooth fairy happened to have a lot of loose change lying around.
But seriously, about the teeth. I'm sad to see them go because when those permanent teeth come in, it changes the whole look of the child and all of a sudden they grow up. I'm not sure I'm ready for all this growing up that is happening in my house!

Gateway Discovery Museum

We joined up with a few other neighborhood coop preschools to go to the Gateway Discovery Museum.
I remember going to this children's museum way back when I was a child. It was in an old, old building Beck Street. I loved the grocery area with all the plastic food, child size shopping carts and registers. Good memories there. Then they moved it to the Gateway in downtown Salt Lake after I was grown. I digress...
It has been many, many years since I have been there. Oh, it was so fun. We could have spent all day there and come back the next day to do it all over again. I took Rachel out of Kindergarten for the day so she could come with us.

Parker worked on the construction site for quite some time.

Then he took a drive with some friends to his next job.

His second job was at the grocery store as a check out clerk. He made sure each item passed over the scanner gave it a verbal "beep" to make sure everything was accounted for.

When we went upstairs, we watched the "News" on the big screen and found that Rachel was in grave danger...  Watch out for giant runaway turtles!
